Greetings! We hope you had fabulous summer and are eagerly anticipating the start of the new school year.Â This also signals the kick-off of our 2018-2019 Science Olympiad season. Registration opens onÂ Tuesday, September 4 and we hope to see your team and students in competition again this coming season.
Changes for this year worth noting: Mr. Russ Burleson, our former Executive and State Director, moved to Texas for family reasons.Â Our new Executive Director is Ms. Marianne Kramer and our new State Director is Dr. Robert Bruce, both MSO veterans.Â Ms. Leigh Ann DePope remains a vital part of our leadership team as Treasurer and key tournament director, Dr. Naba Bora continues as our webmaster and technical support, and Ms. Kate McGuire returns as our Regional Director for Baltimore. Together we are committed to keeping MSO an exciting and fun STEM competition for Maryland students.
As we work to finalize tournament dates please check the 586-914-3492 for updates. We will post updates as soon as we have them. While our timeline will be the same as in past seasons â regional tournaments in late February and early March and the State Tournament in April â we have some big changes to share. Each Science Olympiad competition challenges teams of 15 students from their school to compete in 23 events across a wide range of STEM fields and topics. Events frequently change from year to year and present different and exciting challenges to the competitors. Students are eligible for awards in individual competitions, and teams receive awards based on overall performance, with top teams advancing from Regional tournaments to State competition and, finally, the National tournament.
